Yuba riverThe Western Bird Banding Association (WBBA) is pleased to invite you to Grass Valley, CA for WBBA’s 2020 annual meeting.

Grass Valley is nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains of California and will provide a beautiful and bird-filled backdrop for the meeting. We expect many informative scientific presentations on banding including a training led by Peter Pyle in the new Wolfe-Ryder-Pyle aging system; banding hosted by Gold Country Avian Studies; and field trips in foothills and the Sierra.

Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Nat Seavy, the Director of Migration Science for the Migratory Bird Initiative of the National Audubon Society. After receiving his MS and PhD in zoology from the University of Florida, Nat held post-doctoral positions with the USGS and UC Davis, and for 10 years was the Research Director of the Pacific Coast and Central Valley Group at Point Blue Conservation Science. Nat has published more than 80 scientific papers and book chapters. His research has contributed to developing solutions that integrate bird conservation with climate change, forest and wildfire management, river restoration, wildlife-friendly agriculture, and water management. Nat enjoys the process of bringing stakeholders, scientists, and data together to develop conservation solutions.

As always, there will be many fun social opportunities at which to network and to enjoy the company of your fellow banders in the historic gold rush town of Grass Valley.
